Tax scouts

It was very quick and simple which makes life easier when sorting out taxes and is a great way for beginners who are stating off and is not too sure why to do. What makes it works is how simple everything is.

More hassle than it's worth

More hassle than it's worth. I'm on my third year of using Tax Scouts and it will be my last.

Year #1 was great. No back and forth with the accountant and saved with a chunk of money as I hadn't categorised some of my income correctly when I initially had a crack at the SA.

Year #2. Nightmare. Should have been simpler since I had only one employment in the tax year but there was a lot of problems with the accountant's initial calculations and lots of back and forth trying to get the calculation right. In the end I didn't submit the return through them, complained to support and was refunded. I put it down to a single poor accountant since the experience was great the year before.

Year #3. The nightmare continues. For one, they assigned me the same accountant that I had complained about and whose work I had gotten a refund on the previous year. I only realised this AFTER they had already done the calculation. There were the same problems with the calculations as there were in year #2.

I talked to support and asked for a different accountant and since the calculation was already done, they encouraged me to work with the existing accountant to get the calculation right. Cue lots of groundhog-day-esque back and forth with the accountant over basically the same documents as had happened in year #2. This time juggling a thread with support with me asking for a different accountant or a refund.

So the poor experience in year #2 I put down to the accountant, but in year #3 Tax Scouts need to shoulder most of the blame. Firstly: assigned me the same accountant as last year, who then had the same issue with my (extremely simple btw) taxes. Then wouldn't take any action to remedy the situation.

If I had taken the accountants work at face value, I would have wrongly claimed back thousands of pounds. Then where would I be?

Tax scouts need to improve the initial fact find for the self assessment so it's clearer to accountants what the figures users are supplying are, improve the quality of accountants who working on the platform and make their policy on switching accountants clearer.

Don't bother.

5 Years Later, Still Fantastic.

I've used TaxScouts for over five years. They are always fast, efficient, and professional. I can't recommend them highly enough. My assigned accountant for the duration, Phil, has saved me far more money than I've been charged as a fee.

Quality service

Thankfully I was assigned the accountant Peter green who has been the best accountant I’ve had in a long time, super quick and easy to talk to just gets everything done and sorted no messing around. Someone you’d want if you just want a straight forward transaction. 10/10 will be a reoccurring service each year.

Thoroughly recommended for self-employed individuals

I have used Tax Scouts for the second consecutive year and I was paired with the same accountant, Emily. I submitted my details and spreadsheets and Emily submitted my tax return to HMRC on the very same day! The process is efficient and much more user-friendly than other platforms, including HMRC's own. I would recommend.

Absolutely brilliant service!

Absolutely brilliant service! I’d attempted to submit my tax calculations via HMRC but their calculation was completely incorrect and overpriced! Joed was very quick to respond and he submitted my tax return in less than 48hrs and saved me nearly £1000! Very much appreciated and will definitely be a returning customer.

First self assessment

I have never needed to complete one a self assessment so had no knowledge of where to start. Despite HMRC not making it easy, Tax Scouts gave me all the information I needed and persisted to completion.

Great service.

I can’t believe I spent so many years paying almost four times what I paid taxscouts to do my returns.
They were really professional and when I confused years and made things a lot more complicated they rectified it immediately.
